Fun with blog widgets

6 March 2008

I haven’t really done much in the way of tinkering with the blog elements since I first hacked up the andreas08 template from the talented Mr. Andreas Viklund, but the other day I came across a couple of items on some other blogs and I decided that it was time to see about making some additions.

The first item, which I added to the right-hand side-bar underneath everything else, was a ClustrMap from ClustrMaps.com. It was free, easy to get, and easy to install. The data is interesting to me, and maybe even interesting to visitors as well. Plus it just looks cool sitting there with its little red dots. Mainly, though, I added this one for me, because I like to look at this data.

The second item I added was more for visitors, or at least to make it easier for visitors to share something that they might find of value. mooSocialize from artViper is a cool little doodad that adds a number of different ways to share an article. I put it down at the bottom of the single-article view. If you want to see it in action, just click the title of this article and then go down and click on the mooSocialize image. If all is working as it should, you should see a list of options for sharing the current article. And like the ClusterMap, it was free, easy to get, and easy to install.
